In a blog post on Monday, Google announced that it is bringing the HDR+ technology that allows users to capture better pictures in challenging lighting conditions to photography, social media, and camera apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, Whatsapp and etc.

Google will turn on the Pixel Visual Core i.e a custom designed co-processor for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL, which uses computational photography and machine learning to improve the quality of the images. This implies when you click an image using another app, Visual Core will take care of the image quality like increasing the brightness in dim-lighting and producing more refined images while using less battery.

The Pixel Visual Core also uses another technology called RAISR in Pixel phones which gives a more detailed look for zoomed in pictures.

“Pixel Visual Core also runs RAISR, which means zoomed-in shots look sharper and more detailed than ever before,” said Ofer Shacham, the Pixel Visual Core engineering manager said.

These exciting features would be available to the Pixel users in the next few days along with other software improvements. Google is also including new winter and sports-themed AR stickers in the update which will be available later in this week.
